TV Show Recommendations for Wednesday, September 12, 2012
Ride of the Valkyries, The Last Waltz, the NFL and NASCAR are just some of our TV show recommendations for Wednesday, September 12, 2012.
Palladia has what is certainly one of the best concert films, The Last Waltz, the 1976 film directed by Martin Scorsese and documenting the final concert of The Band (that’s the name of the group) and featuring performances by Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Dr. John, Muddy Waters and others, at 9:00.
Cajun Pawn Stars has its second season Fall premiere at 9:30 on the History Channel. Join the fun at the Silver Dollar Pawn & Jewelry Center in Alexandria, Louisiana where an eclectic array of historical merchandise is on display, with items ranging from vintage cars to firearms to livestock.
And the Fall premiere’s just keep on coming. At 10:00 the History Channel has American Restoration in which Rick Dale and his crew at Rick’s Restorations in Las Vegas, Nevada, take rusty, beat-up items and restore them to their original glory.
The National Geographic Channel has the series premiere of Family Guns at 10:00. No, it’s not about a paranoid reactionary family. Rather, the show features father-son duo Christian and Alex Cranmer and their family business, International Military Antiques, an antique gun supplier.
NBC has the series premiere of Guys with Kids at 10:00. This is a comedy about three 30-something dads who try to hold on to their youth as they face the responsibilities of having kids. The critics are not impressed, the reviews are here.
Wagner week continues on certain PBS stations with Great Performances at the Met – Die Walkure, the second opera in Wagner’s ring cycle. This is the one that has “Ride of the Valkyries,” made famous in Apocalypse Now (not to say that it wasn’t famous before that).
