Arlyn Broche Interview

Arlyn Broche Interview

Arlyn Broche can be seen in HBO’s Ballers.  We spoke with the beautiful and talented actress via email.  Below, that conversation.

While it is clear that you had a passion for acting from a young age, the path you took to get to where you are now has been interesting to say the least. Do you think that the myriad of careers you worked in the past has helped you with your acting?

I believe the different experiences I have acquired during the course of my life, due to the myriad of careers I’ve had, definitely helped me bring more to the table when it comes to my acting. Both my personal and professional background is extensive and juggling all these life experiences has given me a huge amount of diversity and confidence. If there’s one thing I have learned in acting it is that learning the craft/techniques is not enough. As Actors, we must go out into the world and “Live in the moment” or “Experience Life” as much as we can and in turn we can better understand, observe and learn. When I’m presented with an audition or a role that has similarities with my life I can draw from that and use it.

Can you share what it was like auditioning for Ballers and what was your reaction to landing your recurring role on the show?

Lori Wyman, CSA gave me such a wonderful opportunity to audition for the role of Tonya on Ballers. I actually found out I had booked it when I was at Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights with my family.  The news made my night and the rest of my vacation.

What has it been like working on a show that stars Dwayne Johnson and Andy Garcia?

It actually feels like a dream come true to have had the opportunity to work with Dwayne Johnson, who is such a talented and successful actor. I was very impressed with his ability to maintain such humility despite having reached such high levels of success. He has the ability to make you feel very at ease and comfortable while shooting. He is a true professional.

Are there any details you can share about either of the two films – Fallaway or Mary – that you share with our readers?

My two current projects are exciting because they are completely different. In the Indie feature FALLAWAY I play ‘Sheriff’s Deputy Hendricks.’ This is a film that follows five separate story lines focusing on the frantic manhunt for a brutal serial killer.

In the other feature Film MARY, a horror film, I was cast as a lead role playing ‘Skylar Rose,’ a caring and loving woman who tries to accommodate everyone before herself. In this film I feel obligated to make my marriage work for the years invested and my four children.

What was your experience like working with Terry Serpico and Jessica Lundy on The Inspectors?

When I flew out to South Carolina to work on “The Inspectors,” I was beyond thrilled. It was a new city for me, so different from Miami and yet so beautiful. I had the honor to work with both Terry and Jessica who are such seasoned actors, I learned so much from. They are both lovely and fun to work with, our scene is so funny! Can’t wait for Season 2 of ‘The Inspectors’ to air on CBS!

Do you have a hidden talent or ability that your fans might be surprised to learn about?

Well I’m actually quite a pastry chef and cook for that matter. I can whip up a quick meal, sure but, I can also make a nice gourmet dinner and dessert with the flip of a switch and a really good recipe book! Ha! All Kidding aside, I really enjoy it!!

If you had one full day off from working, what would you want to do?

I would probably spend the day in meditation or would go take a yoga class on the beach at Sunrise; I have always wanted to do that! Then have a healthy meal, stack up on water and snacks and find a comfy hammock/lounge chair to spend the rest of the day catching up on my reading. I find myself alternating between several books at once to read. It would be fantastic to dedicate a full day to do just that!

Can you talk about the dream project you would like to work on someday?

I would totally love to have my own TV Show! Even be involved in the production side as well. Work alongside talented actors and create a hit show! That would truly be ah-MAY-zing and a dream come true!

Do you have a preferred genre: comedy or drama; mystery, law or medical? Do you like procedurals or would you like do something sci-fi related?
I love stories that involve mystery and drama. I think procedurals spark curiosity and the intellect. I’m a big problem solver naturally, so when I’m involved watching a show or film that has a strong plot/s and has me guessing, I’m hooked!

What is the one piece of advice that you would give an aspiring actor?

ONE!? Be fearless in the pursuit of your dreams, no one can do what you do, we are all unique. Work Begets work. Let your passion be the driving force in your journey. Just because you slow down doesn’t mean you have to stop. Sometimes your game plan isn’t your end plan and that’s okay.

Do you watch TV? Which shows are you currently watching?

Well “Ballers” on HBO, of course! I also love “Game of Thrones” because of the story-lines, the cast, and those dragons!! WOW! I’m also impatiently waiting for Season 2 of “The Inspectors” on CBS to begin!

If there was one person, living or dead, that you would either want to work with or just spend a day with, who would it be and why?

This is a tough one but, I would absolutely LOVE to work with Meryl Streep. What a talent! I have so much admiration for her as an actress but, also as a human being. She has reached high levels of success for decades, but has also managed to maintain a relatively normal personal life. She has been married for close to 40 years and has raised 4 beautiful children; talk about balance! Would definitely Love some pointers Meryl! It’s just so inspiring to see a woman succeed the way she has and have such a strong family unit. She is one tough lady, I love that!
